The Chinese New Year is less than two weeks away, and it’s the “year of the rat” in 2020.

And what better way to woo the Chinese market with a specially themed kit, especially if you have some popularity in the world’s most populated nation.

We’re speaking about Manchester United, who unveiled the special kit in their 4-0 win against Norwich last weekend.

Special?

Interestingly the kit seems to be covered with a dragon rather than a rat, but it’s not the most attractive design you’ll ever see.

It’s based on the same template as last year’s Adidas x EA Sports shirts and comes with the same 1990s-inspired collar construction.

Back of kit

The collar on Manchester United’s 19-20 Chinese New Year jersey is black with a gold Adidas logo at the front center.

Curiously, in 2008, the last Chinese Year of the Rat, United won their third and most recent European Cup by beating Chelsea on penalties in the Champions League final.
